Overview
Lectures by key speakers will highlight content and topics that their members and leadership have identified as particularly important.

Objectives
  1. Identify appropriate patient candidates for consideration of BBT-I therapy.
  2. Distinguish the main treatment interventions utilized in BBT-I.
  3. Formulate an initial treatment plan based on the main interventions used in BBT-I.
  4. Classify different types of enuresis as they relate to sleep disordered breathing.
  5. Demonstrate the pathophysiology of nocturnal enuresis as it is related to sleep disordered breathing.
  6. Interpret the current published research related to nocturnal enuresis and sleep disordered breathing and formulate a plan for treatment of affected patients.
  7. Describe differential effects of nasal and oronasal masks on optimal pressure requirements, residual AHI, adherence, and satisfaction.
  8. Identify PAP device data that may indicate airway compromise with use of an oronasal mask.
  9. Demonstrate challenges to patient access to sleep medicine services for their sleep disorders.
  10. Illustrate future models of care for sleep patients that will increase access and reduce health care costs.
  11. Recognized the potential relationship that sleep medicine physicians can achieve with their dental counterparts.
  12. Compare the pediatric and orthodontic policies with what may be considered anecdotal intervention in the medical field.
  13. Assess the limited dental research available that recommends early orthodontic intervention in order to eliminate sleep apnea in children.
  14. Identify the various non-surgical techniques available to dentists in order to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
  15. Distinguish and diagnose narcolepsy and other hypersomnia and formulate a treatment strategy for these disorders.
  16. Identify PAP alternatives for OSA patients with PAP intolerance or no acceptance.
  17. Assess suitability of PAP alternatives for OSA patients with PAP intolerance or no acceptance.
  18. Manage OSA patients with PAP intolerance or no acceptance.
  19. Describe the role qualified dentists play in the management of patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
  20. Explain why oral appliances are an effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea.

Grievance Policy & Procedure

The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards and the SLU CME Program Mission is the responsibility of the CME Program Director in consultation with the CME Program Accrediting Director & CME Chairperson, and the Continuing Education Committee. While Saint Louis University CME Program attempts to anticipate issues and assure fair treatment for all participants to conduct and experience valid and successful CME activities, there may be occasional issues which require intervention and/or action on the part of the CME Program. To register a complaint or grievance with the Saint Louis University CME Program:

Submit a written, detailed complaint or grievance to [email protected]. Complaints will be reviewed by the Program Director and addressed or transferred to the appropriate level for review:

  • Answers and/or actions taken to rectify complaints will be documented and sent to those that provide contact information.
  • If appropriate, complaints will be reviewed at the CME Committee Meeting for members to discuss and find solutions to the area of complaint.
  • Compliance issues will automatically be moved up to the Accrediting Director for immediate review.
