Overview

Join Mid-America Transplant for an inspirational day of learning about the organ and tissue donation process. We'll take you through the steps of donation from the initial referral of a potential donor to the care provided to donor families after their loved one donates.

Objectives
One day symposium hosted by Mid-America Transplant designed to provide the healthcare provider with up to date information regarding the organ donation referral process from identifying proper clinical cues to making the referral, through the the approach process, medical management and recovery. The program will also feature specialized speakers presenting on specific organ and tissue transplantation topics. In addition, we will hear from a donor family member and recipient.

  1. List two clinical indications for referring a potential organ donor to Mid-america Transplant (OPO).
  2. Identify the OPO staff person that is responsible for introducing and discussing the option of organ donation with the deceased LNOK.
  3. Describe two changes in organ donor management that increase the number of organs transplanted.
  4. List and describe three methods to improve oxygenation and lung donation in the brain-dead organ donor.
  5. Compare the benefit of low-dose versus high-dose steroids in the brain-dead donor.
  6. Identify two programs offered through the Aftercare department that are offered to support donor families following the death and donation of their family member.
  7. Describe the benefits of heart and kidney transplantation associated with end stage organ failure.
  8. List two common uses or applications for donated cadaver skin.
  9. Recognize the benefits the donor family parent's experienced after their decision to move forward with organ donation following the death of their loved one.
  10. Differentiate conditions impacting the recipient's activities of daily living pre and post organ (tissue) transplant.
