Home of the North American Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Training Institute, the Gateway Geriatric Education Center will provide Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Facilitator Certification Training for practitioners, faculty, fellows, residents, and students who are or will provide care and services to older adults experiencing mild-moderate dementia and their families.  The training includes lectures and skills-based breakout sessions provided by an interprofessional group of trainers and SCT facilitators.  CST is a non-pharmacologic intervention for persons with mild to moderate dementia.  The training fulfills the first requirement for CST Facilitator Certification.



Objectives
  1. To discuss how to apply the key principles to CST and demonstrate competency in use.
  2. To consider key psychosocial approaches for dementia, become familiar with CST sessions and demonstrate competency in application.
  3. To identify how CST was designed and evaluated.
  4. To assess CST sessions and demonstrate competency in application.


 

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, and co-provided by Saint Louis University Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing in cooperation with the Gateway Geriatric Education Center, and the Saint Louis University School of Social Work. Saint Louis University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation:

Saint Louis University designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Saint Louis University School of Medicine will provide Other learner certificates (APPs, nurses, and other types of learners).  The certificate will state that the activity was designated for 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Follow your board's requirements for reciprocal CE credits.

Grievance Policy & Procedure

The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards and the SLU CME Program Mission is the responsibility of the CME Program Director in consultation with the CME Program Accrediting Director & CME Chairperson, and the Continuing Education Committee. While Saint Louis University CME Program attempts to anticipate issues and assure fair treatment for all participants to conduct and experience valid and successful CME activities, there may be occasional issues which require intervention and/or action on the part of the CME Program. To register a complaint or grievance with the Saint Louis University CME Program:

Submit a written, detailed complaint or grievance to [email protected]. Complaints will be reviewed by the Program Director and addressed or transferred to the appropriate level for review:

  • Answers and/or actions taken to rectify complaints will be documented and sent to those that provide contact information.
  • If appropriate, complaints will be reviewed at the CME Committee Meeting for members to discuss and find solutions to the area of complaint.
  • Compliance issues will automatically be moved up to the Accrediting Director for immediate review.
