Overview

Few interventions are shown to effectively help stimulate memory, cognition, and mood in older adults with mild to moderate dementia. Originally developed from the UK, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is an evidence based approach to stimulate memory of participants in an interactive psychosocial group setting. This training, given by expert facilitators in CST, will provide the background of CST, the techniques of the group, and areas to consider when implementing this in one's practice.


Objectives
  1. Introduce the risks and lack of interventions for individuals with mild to moderate dementia.
  2. Describe the details and skills about Cognitive Stimulation Therapy as an intervention.
  3. Apply these skills from the CST intervention to groups at different care and practice sites.

Registration

Registration is required in order to attend the program. This is offered hybrid; both in-person or virtual.

Meeting login and logistical information will be provided to registered and paid participants a few days prior to the activity.

Registration Fees:
$400 for all professionals
$100 for all students (must state institution and program in registration)
$200 per person for the group rate (Five or more registrants from the same organization)

Saint Louis University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation:

Saint Louis University designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Grievance Policy & Procedure

The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards and the SLU CME Program Mission is the responsibility of the CME Program Director in consultation with the CME Program Accrediting Director & CME Chairperson, and the Continuing Education Committee. While Saint Louis University CME Program attempts to anticipate issues and assure fair treatment for all participants to conduct and experience valid and successful CME activities, there may be occasional issues which require intervention and/or action on the part of the CME Program. To register a complaint or grievance with the Saint Louis University CME Program:

Submit a written, detailed complaint or grievance to [email protected]. Complaints will be reviewed by the Program Director and addressed or transferred to the appropriate level for review:

  • Answers and/or actions taken to rectify complaints will be documented and sent to those that provide contact information.
  • If appropriate, complaints will be reviewed at the CME Committee Meeting for members to discuss and find solutions to the area of complaint.
  • Compliance issues will automatically be moved up to the Accrediting Director for immediate review.
