  1. Learners will identify the range of services available to patients at SSM Health Saint Louis University Cancer Center in order to accurately and effectively refer patients to relevant therapeutic interventions.

Community Clinical Research: A New Paradigm

In this presentation, a new paradigm of conducting community clinical research will be presented.  Elements of this paradigm will include infrastructure support from an external commercial Integrated Research Organization (IRO) and focus on industry trials that can be deployed across SSM community sites.  In addition, we will review the integration between the IRO supported research infrastructure and the academic programs at SLU.

Goals of care conversations are a fundamental part on patient care and even more in the oncology patient. Understanding what the patient is looking forward to and what is important in their lives helps to develop a treatment plan and strategies for the future.  Oncologists have this conversations all the time and the objective of this talk is to provide additional tools to be used in these conversations.



Objectives:

Recognize which is the best moment to have a goals of care conversation.

Learn strategies to have goals of care conversations more effectively without thinking is loosing hope or giving up.

Determine useful ways to document goals of care conversations. 

Overview of hematopoietic stem cell transplant & CAR-T therapy

I will aim to give an overview of hematopoietic stem cell transplant, both autologous and allogeneic, and introduce CAR-T therapy. I will review the indications for and principles behind each of these cellular therapies and touch on the medical pre-requisites for each of these therapies.

Review the indications for and principles behind autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant.

State the medical pre-requisites for the various types of transplant.

Highlight the role of multi-disciplinary specialists in cellular therapy patient care.

Introduce CAR-T therapy.

The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards and the SLU CME Program Mission is the responsibility of the CME Program Director in consultation with the CME Program Accrediting Director & CME Chairperson, and the Continuing Education Committee. While Saint Louis University CME Program attempts to anticipate issues and assure fair treatment for all participants to conduct and experience valid and successful CME activities, there may be occasional issues which require intervention and/or action on the part of the CME Program. To register a complaint or grievance with the Saint Louis University CME Program:

Submit a written, detailed complaint or grievance to [email protected]. Complaints will be reviewed by the Program Director and addressed or transferred to the appropriate level for review:

  • Answers and/or actions taken to rectify complaints will be documented and sent to those that provide contact information.
