Overview
This symposium is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), registered nurses, pre-hospital care providers, physical and occupational therapists, and respiratory therapists involved in the management, diagnosis, treatment, and transport of trauma patients. This one day program will explore common mechanisms of injuries associated with trauma, as well as provide participants with many concepts and current guidelines concerning the management of the trauma patient.

Objectives
  1. Apply current recommendations on burns to the treatment of trauma patients suffering from burns and severe road rash
  2. Utilize hospital staff so they can prepare their facilities for instances of mass casualty trauma situations
  3. Develop strategies for use of staff and resources in both prehospital and trauma centers in the case of mass casualties
  4. Assess differences and overlap in best practice for the care of military vs. civilian trauma patients
  5. Implement "Stop the Bleed" guidelines for treatment of life threatening bleeding in the prehospital community environment
  6. Recognize the socioeconomic challenges of trauma patients after discharge and review availability of outside resources
  7. Implement best practice guidelines to improve the care of the trauma patient injured as a result of a blast or explosion
  8. Analyze the challenges in evacuation, care, and transfer of the rural trauma patient
  9. Review the roles of EMS, ouside hospitals, and trauma centers in the care of the rural trauma patient
